Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle John Jenkins #95 has selected the Avery Burton Foundation (ABF) as his nonprofit to represent him in the NFL’s national campaign, My Cause My Cleats. Jenkins, No. 95, will wear his custom Nike Air Jordan cleats on Dec. 16 at Allegiant Stadium during the Raiders game against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.

The NFL started this program in 2016 to help the community and let players express themselves. Players collaborate with the manufacturer and designers to create custom-designed cleats displaying the causes they care most about.

About Avery Burton Foundation

Avery Burton was a three-sport athlete at Foothill High School in Henderson and graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2017. He died from suicide two months after graduation following a major depressive episode. ABF was established to honor his memory and promote mental health awareness and education.

ABF offers scholarships to high school seniors, programs in Mental Health First Aid Training and focuses on destigmatizing the conversation around mental health through outreach and educational resources for students and families. This is done, in part, with impactful storytelling via the ABF Resiliency Project and by providing Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) tips.

“It means a lot to see the nonprofit named after my brother featured and supported by John Jenkins #95 and the Raiders on one of the NFL’s biggest stages during Monday Night Football.”

The Avery Burton Foundation (ABF) is a non-profit 501c.3 Organizations were created to reduce mental health stigma through mental health outreach and education.

Reggie Burton and his family founded ABF to honor his son, Avery Rashawn Burton, who, two months after graduating from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), suffered a major depressive episode and took his life in July 2017 at age 22. He had just received his degree in May 2017 in Kinesiological Science and planned to pursue a doctoral degree in physical therapy at UNLV.
