Avery Burton Foundation Hosts Second Annual 'Hike and Heal' Event
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Avery Burton Foundation hosted its second annual “Hike and Heal” event on Saturday.
Community members came together to get outdoors in Boulder City for the walk.
Many studies show the correlation between getting outside and mental health; wellness can boost endorphins and serotonin levels. Hormones that help improve mood and cognition.
The foundation is dedicated to bringing awareness to the cause.
“It’s named after my son Avery Burton. He had a major depressive episode after graduating college in 2017 and eventually wound up taking his life. We wanted to do something to bring awareness to mental health and depression issues, so we started this foundation,” Reggie Burton, founder of the Avery Burton Foundation, said
The foundation continues to partner with the community by providing scholarships, mental health, first aid training, and more.
